23-year-old Indian Mujahideen chief Tehseen Akhtar held
New Delhi/Patna: With the arrest of Indian Mujahideen’s India chief, who had plotted BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi’s Patna rally blasts, the Delhi police special cell claimed Tuesday to have “dealt a severe blow to the terror outfit”.
The arrest of 23-year-old Tahseen Akhtar, alias Monu alias Hassan, came two days after IM’s top bombmaker Waqas was caught from Ajmer railway station. Sources said his initial interrogation revealed he was reportedly in touch with a local leader of a major political party at Samstipur, Bihar, for assistance. The police is probing this lead further.
Monu was reportedly picked up at around 10.30 am on Tuesday from Kakkarvitta village on the India-Nepal border. He crossed the border to be fished out to Pakistan by his handlers for shelter. Monu is believed to have been staying in Nepal for the past five-six months.
Besides Narendra Modi’s Patna rally on October 27, a source said, Monu also orchestrated the Bodh Gaya serial blasts in July last year. His arrest has effectively left the homegrown terror outfit headless.
