Father takes blame for techie daughter’s murder

Police said that parents were unable to digest the fact that their daughter had married outside their community

GUNTUR: The police on Tuesday presented the couple, who had murdered their daughter for marrying out the caste, before the media. According to Guntur West DSP T.V. Nagaraju, deceased software engineer P. Deepti’s parents, P. Hari Babu and Sambrajyam, had killed their daughter in Guntur city on March 23.

After the marriage, when Deepti had come to her parent’s house for the “vrutham”, they quarreled with her. Deepti made it clear that she would not come to their house in future because they opposed her marriage. In a fit of rage, her parents strangled her with her chunni. They later fled from the scene.

Mr Nagaraju produced the accused, Hari Babu, a farmer, and his wife, Sambrajyam, before the media in Guntur on Tuesday. Hari Babu, meanwhile, took the blame on himself and said that his wife had nothing to do with the murder.

However, Mr Nagaraju pointed out that it would have been difficult for a single person to strangle someone and thus the parents had killed their daughter together.
While Deepti belonged to the Kamma community, her husband, A. Kiran Kumar, was a Kapu. The police said that her parents were unable to digest the fact that their daughter had married outside their community. Deepti’s parents invited her over and hatched a plan to kill her. They were apparently planning a big wedding for her daughter and were shocked when Deepti married a boy outside their caste at the Arya Samaj on March 21 in Hyderabad.
