GMR moves to High Court on UDF charges
Hyderabad: The GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) has moved the AP High Court challenging the decision of the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) in scrapping collection of User Development Fee for the next two years.
The GHIAL has contended that the AERA has no jurisdiction to fix the UDF and it was the Central government, who has the authority to take a decision on it.
Because the Centre has remained inactive in taking a decision in the matter, the GHIAL claimed others, who do not have the powers to take such decisions, are taking decisions.
The GMR told the court that the yardsticks that were applied to Bombay and Bengaluru airports were different and the method followed in case of Hyderabad airport is totally different. After a brief hearing on Tuesday, Justice Naveen Rao adjourned the matter.
GHAIL has been charging Rs 430 and Rs 1,700 (excluding service taxes) per embarking domestic and international passenger, respectively.
The AERA allowed them purely on an adhoc basis, with effect from November 1, 2010, for a period of five years.
