A website that helps you find the right candidate
Thiruvananthapuram: Are you confused about whom to vote for? Here is a website that helps you resolve the confusion by judging your own preferences and that of the respective political parties based on policies.
Anoop Ramanujam, who works for a leading IT firm at Technopark, has launched the website whogetsmyvote.in which is receiving a large number of hits. It is rather like a game as the political leaning of a voter is determined by his/her preferences in allocating funds to various sectors.
There are ten sectors —agriculture, industry, technology, security, anti-corruption, minorities, infrastructure, public sector, social sector and environment. One gets Rs 100 to distribute among these ten sectors and from the allocations made, his/her preferences to each sector could be gauged which is compared with the policies of the major parties.
“Many voters, especially many techies, seem to be confused for whom they should vote. Often the votes are cast just by considering the personality of the candidates. This prompted me to launch an application that helps the voters select the candidates of their choice,” said Mr Ramanujam.
The website, which was launched only a week ago, is getting up to 2,000 hits per day. The values for the parties have been prepared by consulting experts and analysing the preferences they have given to various sectors in their manifestos. Once all the parties launch their fresh manifestos, the values may be revised.
The present methodology considers industrialisation and security to be pro-BJP factors and minorities as anti-BJP.
The pro-Congress factors are minorities and industries while anti-corruption goes against the Congress. Anti-corruption and environment are considered to be pro-AAP factors while agriculture and public sector pro-Left factors.
