Hyderabad: Vijayamma campaigns for municipal polls amidst infighting

Two groups of YSR Congress had created chaos on Monday

Hyderabad: Amid chaotic scenes created by the two groups of YSR Congress on Monday, party honorary president Y S Vijayalakshmi began her municipal poll campaign in Madhira of Khammam district.

The infighting came to the fore in a road show at Madhira after Ms Vijayalakshmi announced party’s constituency in-charge Samanya Kiran as the party’s Assembly candidate.

A group, led by YSRC Sevadal leader Darelli Ashok, displayed placards and shouted slogans against the candidature of Ms Samanya Kiran.

Stating that Ms Samanya Kiran is a non-local as she is from Nellore district, they contended that party’s ticket be given to a local candidate.

An altercation ensued between the two groups and they jostled with each other. A timely intervention of police avoided any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, addressing a couple of thousands of people during her road show at Ambedkar Centre, Ms Vijayalakshmi appealed to the people to choose right candidates in the municipal and local body elections.

Reeling out the welfare schemes introduced by former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, she challenged Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu to spell out at least one good work he had done to people during his nine-year rule.

Stating that YSR had always treated all three regions of the state equally, she termed Khammam district as a bridge between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
