Two arrested for rape, murder, 4 absconding
Vijayawada: Nine days after the brutal rape and murder of M. Hima Bindu, the 41-year-old wife of a bank manager, police here on Monday arrested two of the six accused.
Producing the main accused, Md Subhani, 27 and S. Gopi Krishna, 24, before the media, deputy commissioner of police M. Ravi Prakash said that the details of the crime were revealed while investigating the accused in the case and from the post-mortem reports.
Detailing the sequence of incidents, the DCP said, “Subhani, who was working as a driver for the flat owner in which Hima Bindu’s family lived, Gopi Krishna, former driver of the same person, and four others planned to rape the victim and loot gold ornaments from her house. On March 15, after finding the victim alone at home, Subhani, Gopi and another accomplice entered the victim’s home on the pretext of repairing a tap.
“As Subhani was known to the family, Hima Bindu let them in to repair the pipelines after which the trio closed the door and raped her. Later, another three accused came up to the flat and raped her before strangling her.”
He said that the dead body was kept in the adjacent flat till March 16 as Subhani had been given the keys by the owners who were out of station. Late at night on March 16, the gang carried the body to the Bandar canal nearby and dumped it, the police said.
Mr Ravi agreed that the police was initially completely misled by Subhani who created a kidnap drama.
“After the victim’s husband, M. Sai Ram, lodged a missing and suspected kidnap complaint with the Patamata police, we deployed five teams and launched a search for Hima Bindu. We traced her phone, which was with the accused. We intended to save her from the kidnappers,” he said. “After finding a body at Bandar canal on March 17, we inquired with all police stations and confirmed that it belonged to Hima Bindu,” he said, adding, “Search is on for the remaining accused.”
Over 80 gm of gold ornaments were seized from them. All six accused will be booked for dacoity, rape and murder.
