NTR health university raided by Crime Investigation Department

CID sources said that a case of cheating, forgery and malpractice has been registered,

The Criminal Investigation Department on Monday raided the NTR University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada immediately after Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan ordered a CID inquiry into the PG medical entrance scam. The CID officers questioned university registrar Dr S. Babulal and controller of examinations Prof. Vijaykumar about the process of preparing and transporting question papers for the PG medical entrance examination.

CID sources said that a case of cheating, forgery and malpractice has been registered, and 17 students have been listed as accused. They said 10 teams have been formed to probe the issue, and that raids are being carried out in the state as well as Bengaluru simultaneously.

Earlier in the day, the inquiry committee headed by Prof. L. Venugopal Reddy, chairman, AP State Council of Higher Education, submitted its report to the Governor.
Though the committee has not disclosed the contents of the report as per instructions of the Governor, it was learnt that the committee had recommended a re-test to clear doubts among students. It also recommended a CID inquiry to find out the culprits responsible for the irregularities.

The inquiry committee was set up by the Governor following complaints from students that the question papers were leaked and results were rigged, besides other irregularities in the exam process conducted by the NTRUHS.

The committee conducted a public hearing at Nagarjuna University, Guntur, and recorded the complaints and allegations of students. The committee observed that though the students lodged complaints about question papers being leaked and other irregularities, they could not submit any evidence, and thus it is necessary to order a probe by the CID or any other appropriate investigation agency.

The committee is learnt to have expressed serious doubts about 11 students who secured top ranks in the PG medical entrance exam despite poor performance in the MBBS examination, and in some cases had obtained graduate medical degrees from China and other foreign countries.
