Malaysian rapper Rabbit Mac is a hit in T-town

Malaysian rapper Rabbit Mac’s song Sweety Sweety for the Tollywood movie Race Gurram has become an instant hit.

Specially called by music director S. Thaman for the song, back home Rabbit Mac has carved a niche for himself with his album Rabbit Provoked.

About the overwhelming response for Sweety Sweety, the rapper says, “I would want to thank everyone for appreciating the song. This is my first track in Tollywood that I got from the man himself, Thaman. Sweety Sweety sounded so commercial and catchy. I think I will label all these songs ‘Off the Hook’.”

And the language barrier did not stop Rabbit from making the song his own. “I instantly said yes to the song even though I didn’t understand a word. The brief given was ‘It’s a love song, do your thing’. To me, it was love at first sight,” he says.

“I was in the middle of something in Chennai and my throat was uncomfortable when I went to record. I believe I slammed it down with the help of Thaman for that particular song. Later, the whole day I was humming Sweety Sweety… till I sang out to a girl on the streets, and got a stare in return,” he laughs.

Talking about the singing fraternity in Malaysia, Rabbit Mac says, “All artistes in Malaysia work to build their own platform. I feel in Malaysia, everyone knows me and down here I believe they are about to know me.”

Rabbit, who is also into hip-hop Malaysian Tamil Underground music, started his professional music career by making remixes of both English and Tamil songs.

And the rapper hopes that he will meet some T’wood celebs. “I thought I could bump into the man himself Bunny and of course, the extremely talented and beautiful Shruti,”
