ICC World T20: South Africa feel pressure ahead of New Zealand clash

South Africa take on New Zealand on Monday

Chittagong: The Proteas were losers by five runs in the Group 1 opener against Sri Lanka in Chittagong, meaning they will probably have to win their remaining three matches to book a place in the semi-finals.

The first of those comes on Monday against New Zealand, winners in a weather affected match versus England, and Duminy is under no illusion that things have already reached do or die status.

“There’s always going to be that added pressure on us now, depending on how other results go we’re probably going to have to win all three,” he said.

“We want to make sure that we give ourselves the best chance in this tournament and that unfortunately means winning the last three games.

“That’s what it is and we’re going to have to play accordingly.”

New Zealand represent a tricky challenge in 20 over cricket, with a well balanced side and plenty of hitting power.

Assessing his next opponents, Duminy added: “I guess if you look at the way they’ve been playing the last few months, they’ve come into this tournament with a lot of confidence so it’s going to be an uphill battle for us.

“But I’m confident that we have the armoury to give ourselves the best chance. They’re a really good side, especially in the shorter formats, so we’re going to have to bring our A game.”

Black Caps batsman Kane Williamson anticipates an equally challenging day at the office against opponents desperate not to falter for the second time in a row.
