Congress hits out at TD-BJP ties
Vijayawada: Describing the BJP as a “fundamentalist” party, the Congress on Sunday launched a ‘no holds barred’ attack on the Telugu Desam-BJP combine.
Union ministers J.D. Seelam, Killi Kruparani, Panabaka Lakshmi, K. Chiranjeevi and former state minister Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad, addressing the party workers’ meeting, slammed the TD and its new ally, the BJP.
With an eye on the Muslim and Christian voters and other weaker sections of the society in Seemandhra districts, the Congress leaders said that voting for the TD was nothing but voting for the BJP.
The Congress leaders warned that voting for the TD and the BJP would be catastrophic for the people of India, particularly for the minorities and weaker sections.
They also took pains to explain that division of the state would be beneficial to the Seemandhra districts in the longer run.
Former MLA and suspended TD leader Chinnam Ramakotaiah on Sunday joined the Congress in the presence of K. Chiranjeevi and new PCC chief N. Raghuveera Reddy.
Mr Ramakotaiah said the TD chief had suspended him from the party because he voted in the presidential elections against the wish of TD leaders.
