Nothing wrong with kin joining politics
Of late some political parties have raised the issue of concentrating power within a family. I welcome the debate on it. Handing over power to family members and then forcing the public to accept it is certainly a kind of dynasty system. At the same time it is also equally important to know that every individual has equal rights in our democracy.
It is right to say that an individual, just because he hails from a political family should not be imposed on the public. But, the demand to keep an individual, having all qualities to become a leader, away from power just because he hails from a political family is unfair. It is like depriving one of his primary rights.
In this case the political analysts and parties should look at things with a broader social perspective. Branding a person as a family member and keeping him away from politics is denying democratic rights.
We are living in a democratic country. A political leader cannot force a family member on the public. It needs public acceptance. In our country many leaders brought their children into politics. But, how many succeeded? A political leader can use power and charisma to promote his family members only once. But to win again and survive hard work and public acceptance is a must. One who does not live up to public expectations will ultimately lose in politics.
In our country many political parties have heirs. And propaganda against family politics can also be seen. However, branding all political parties and leaders as dynastic is unfair. There are attempts to consider TRS as a family business, which is sending a wrong signal to the public. In TRS all public representatives have played a vital role in the Telangana movement, and have worked for the public. They did not begin with a political post, but participated in the movement. Even, we, part of KCR’s family have been working for the party. Many a times we have suffered the caning of the police.
When KCR was leading the movement, what would you have said if we minded our own business and stayed away from it.
One should not look at everything blindly and brand a political party as a family enterprise. Just being the offspring of a leader should not become an ineligibility. That is my request. Simply handing over power to a relative is dynastic, but branding those working hard to serve the public as dynastic is unfair.
