Chennai: MDMK general secretary Vaiko praised Narendra Modi and said that NDA will form the new government.MDMK will contest seven Lok Sabha seats as part of BJP-led alliance, in its manifesto released on Saturday demanded that the powers relating to education and the residuary powers listed in the Constitution be fully given to the states.
The party has promised reservation in the private sector, interlinking of rivers, and setting up of Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee to oversee sharing of Cauvery waters between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Vaiko’s party also said that it would lift the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). It also plans to work towards holding a referendum on the creation of Eelam in Sri Lanka for Lankan Tamils.
According to MDMK, the referendum should be held in places where Lankan Tamils live. The party has promised that Tamils would be appointed as ambassadors in nations having a sizeable Tamil population. It plans to force India to take severe action against Sri Lanka if it continues to attack Indian fishermen and to retrieve Katchatheevu, an islet in Palk Strait, from Sri Lanka.
Reacting to chief minister Jayalalithaa’s remarks at an election rally about votes to parties other than the AIADMK going “waste”, Vaiko said, “She is entitled to her opinion. But I believe that your vote is wasted if you vote for anyone other than BJP alliance as every other party might try to get outside support of the Congress just for power.”
