LS polls: Congress is likely to tie-up with CPI in Telengana

Congress may offer the Nalgonda Lok Sabha seat, currently held by Gutta Sukhender Reddy

Hyderabad: A possible alliance between the Congress and the CPI may affect some sitting members of the ruling party. In preliminary discussions held between Telangana PCC president Ponnala Laxmaiah and CPI leader K. Narayana, the Communist party has sought three Lok Sabha and 22 Assembly seats.
The Congress may agree to give one Lok Sabha and 10 to 12 Assembly seats to the CPI.

According to sources, the Congress may offer the Nalgonda Lok Sabha seat, currently held by Gutta Sukhender Reddy, to the CPI. Mr Sukhender Reddy may be shifted to the Assembly, probably from Miryalaguda.

Most affected by the Congress-CPI deal would be the Komatireddy brothers in Nalgonda district. Mr Komatireddy Venkata Reddy was elected from the Nalgonda Assembly seat and his brother Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy to the Lok Sabha from Bhongir.

If Mr Sukhender Reddy shifts from the Nalgonda LS seat, Mr Venkata Reddy may lose his seat or he will have to shift elsewhere. However, he will face no problem if Mr Sukhender Reddy agrees to shift to Miryalaguda.

Mr Laxmaiah himself wants to contest from the Bhongir LS seat. If the high command agrees to the plan, Mr Rajagopal Reddy will have to go seat-hunting.
On Saturday he alleged that that some Congress leaders were trying to “eliminate” him and his brother from the elections.

Meanwhile, Mr Narayana told the media that there would be an alliance between the Congress and the CPI. He said that they want one Lok Sabha and 10 to 12 Assembly seats.
Mr Narayana said that he had tried to form a CPI-TRS-Congress alliance, but the Telangana party had not responded to his proposal.
