Vaiko meets Alagiri, seeks support for NDA in elections
Chennai: MDMK leader Vaiko met suspended DMK leader M K Alagiri at his residence in Madurai on Sunday.
The meeting could turn out to be a major political development in Tamil Nadu politics after MDMK became a part of the BJP-led NDA.
Earlier this month, Alagiri had met BJP chief, Rajnath Singh deciding to offer support to the country’s main opposition ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
After the meeting, Vaiko told reporters, "I sought his (Alagiri) support for the NDA. I came to meet Alagiri to garner support for me. I wanted him to support me in the Lok Sabha polls."
In a shocking turn of events, Alagiri was suspended from all posts of the DMK for going against the party stand in January. He, however, maintained that his father was misled.
Endorsing the existence of a "Modi wave" across the country, Vaiko on Saturday had also said that BJP's prime ministerial candidate becoming the next prime minister was a certain certainty even without taking into account the 40 seats of Tamil Nadu.
