Speed up probe in trafficking, says Andhra Pradesh Chief Justice
Hyderabad: The AP High Court Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta on Saturday said that speedy investigation is necessary for human trafficking cases. He said that the concerned probe officials should expedite investigation of such cases in order to ensure justice for the victims.
Addressing the audience at the ‘Judicial Colloquium on Human Trafficking’, organised in the city by the AP Judicial Academy, Secunderabad, Sengupta said, “Trafficking is a socio-economic problem Society has to be sensitised and made aware of it.”
He said that rehabilitation of victims still remains a major concern due to the taboos and social behaviour towards them. Recalling cases he had encountered in his career, he said many girls were lured with lucrative jobs or roles in movies Citing human trafficking cases from West Bengal, Sengupta said that young girls trained in dance were pushed into escort services and were sexually exploited.
Speaking on the occasion, retired IGP (CID) Umapathi said that lack of support from governmentin the form of interim relief fund for rescued victims is a major challenge in the rehabilitation process.
