Upgrade your Windows XP or get fined: Banking authority warning

Banking authority in Ghana warns financial institutions to upgrade or face fines

The Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS) has issued warnings to local financial institutions that they should either upgrade their systems using Windows XP to Windows 7 or Windows 8 else they can face fines.

The banking authority acknowledges the critical situation of the vulnerable operating system and has released the warning.

Forcing banks to upgrade and to spend for the costly upgrades might not be the correct method, but they believe that it is a possible solution to keep their customers protected. Security experts worldwide are predicting an avalanche of attacks after end of support.

As reported by Softpedia, ATMs, if upgraded to the new OS, would also benefit from the new features it offers and have better security. This means that customers would avail of the better services across the country.
