Hyderabad: With an eye at the upcoming general polls, a few TV channels have come up with packages for political leaders.

According to sources, the channels are targeting Rs 15 to Rs 20 crore of advertisement revenue during the polls. They have come up with five to six models depending on how much the leaders want to spend. For example, a particular channel has offered an MP candidate extensive coverage from the time he files his nominations. The package will also include airing 10 minutes of his speeches in public meetings.

Packages that cost around Rs 10 lakh include 15 minutes coverage for a day, a daily one minute item for 15 days every alternative day and 10 times scrolls daily for 20 days. For MLA candidates, there are Rs 5 lakh packages that will cover his or her filing of nominations, airing speeches for 10 minutes, daily 30-second news item for 15 days on alternative days and 10 times scrolls daily for 15 days.

Some channels meanwhile, have come up with a uniform package for Rs 4.50 lakh. On Thursday, when a TV channel representative approached a Telangana Congress MLA to talk about the packages, the MLA said there was no point in going to channels for coverage when power cuts were only going to increase and there may not be any power in villages.
