I wish to win an Oscar someday: Sherlyn Chopra
The actress says she doesn't need fabric to make her look good
Sherlyn Chopra - the name conjures images of a feisty, controversial young lady. While the latter still persists, the name wasn't always so. Chopra made her way to showbiz as Mona - a move she thought would bring her better prospects. "Mona was an imagination, creation of a few people in the Hindi film industry whom I had met during the start of my career. My so-called well-wishers thought 'Sherlyn' was a tongue twister and not very media-friendly. After that I went on to be called Menaka until I realised that it's best to go back to the name my parents gave me. Besides, Sherlyn's more Hollywood," she says.
Chopra is currently working on a South Indian flick titled 'Bad Girl' and believes it captures the essence of who she is - a vulnerable girl in showbiz. "I consider vulnerability as a form of strength, not weakness. As human beings, we're all vulnerable. I'd rather wear my heart on my sleeve than be guarded at the time. I am glad I was chosen for the film because it's me. The film encapsulates the rise and fall of a model and the men she encounters through her journey to stardom," she says.
The actress believes that the title moreover, defines her. "In a country like ours, being straightforwardness is not appreciated - it's bad. I speak my mind. I admit that I have done enhancement procedures and a nose job. I'd never say 'no comments' or 'I was born with this nose'. I guess this does not bode very well with the moral police," she says also referring to the various instances when her bare-bodied pictures were splashed on a social networking site. "But then, damn the moral police," she adds.
"Nudity after all, is just a state of being. Because I follow a very healthy living and take care of my body, I don't need fabric to make me look good. Only my consciousness can also do. But more
importantly, going full monty for the Playboy cover I have become shameless," says Sherlyn whose film 'Kamasutra 3D' is due to hit the theatres soon.
But the actress also harbours dreams of bringing home an Oscar one day and assures us that she's working towards it. We ask her if we'll ever see her playing a girl-next-door in a Bollywood flick. "Yes. A girl-next-door who eventually becomes bold and daring. There has got to be some kind of metamorphosis in the character graph of the roles that I choose to portray, else it would be no fun. I like getting out of my comfort zone," she says.
Sherlyn admits that she had more detractors than supporters. The numbers show on her Twitter handle - 1.2 million followers, she tells us. But she is thankful to those who condemn her. "They inspire me to work harder and prove them wrong. I am thankful to them. It hurts when people think that you do things for publicity. There are a zillion ways to attract media attention. But sometimes people also do things out of sheer goodwill," she adds.
