Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Khaleda Zia to face corruption trial

Zia and her associates have denied the charges leveled against them

Dhaka: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia along with other prominent opposition members will reportedly face corruption trial next month on charges of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars in charitable funds.

Zia and her associates have denied the charges leveled against them saying that the charges are politically motivated.
According to a news report, the Dhaka court has scheduled the trial for 21 April after rejecting her lawyers' pleas for more time.
Meanwhile, after Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) boycotted disputed elections in January, the trial is likely to inflame tensions in Bangladesh.
