Power cuts hamper exam preparations
Hyderabad: Haphazard power cuts in the twin cities are playing havoc with study time tables of students. Ridah Fatima, an Intermediate first year student, says her Maths paper on March 18 did not go well because she could not study the night before the exam due to power cuts.
This is the state of our city just before the elections. It shows our leaders’ failure to provide even basic facilities. I and my elder brother are giving our intermediate boards. On Tuesday it was my Maths paper. I suffered a power cut all night on Monday. It might not be a very big deal for anyone else, but it is for me and for my family and to every other middle class family,” she added.
Swathi, also a student, pointed out that if this is the state in the city, one can imagine the state of students in other mandals.
“Revision is a must before the examination and if the time table is disturbed the entire exam goes for a toss,” she said.
Parents are very upset over frequent tripping and power cuts. “It is not right for the officials to cut power without prior notice, not even giving people time to make alternative arrangements for students appearing for exams. Helpless students are forced to bear the brunt of load shedding, specially in the night hours which are important hours for revision. Several complaints to the power supplier has borne no fruit,” said Mr. Ram Reddy, a resident of Shanthinagar-Masab tank.
Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company Limited officials state that according to the revised schedule, there will be load shedding for three hours daily, in two spells of one-and-a-half hours each. Due to Intermediate examinations from 9 am to noon, the three-hour power cuts at present are being imposed in two spells, from 6.30 am to 8 am and 12.30 pm to 2 pm, depending on the availability of power.
Mr Satish Kumar, CGM, clarified that the tripping could be due to a fault in the local line or a fuse might have blown up. There is no power cut scheduled during the night hours. Issues with the transformer might be the cause of the disruptions.
