Model Code of Conduct stops hunt for capital of Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: Chief secretary P.K. Mohanty on Tuesday told the concerned officials to suspend work related to the identification of a suitable location for the new capital of Andhra Pradesh till the elections are over.
The chief secretary has constituted a sub-committee to help the Centre-appointed committee to find a suitable location. The committee’s chairman is S.K.Joshi, the municipal administration and urban development principal secretary. The chief secretary has now decided to put the exercise in cold storage fearing that it might violate the model code of conduct by influencing voters, sources told this newspaper.
Mr Mohanty was interacting with senior bureaucrats at the Secretariat after the review held by Union home secretary Anil Goswami was over. The chief secretary explained to the visiting Central team the various initiatives that have been taken, including setting up sub-committees.
He said that the guidelines for division of employees could not be finalised. He also said that several senior officers have shown no interest in heading the state reorganisation cell, compelling him to overload finance principal secretary Dr P.V.Ramesh.
