Chennai: The BJP seems to be compromising in magnanimously bequeathing seats to allies unmindful of the fact that it cannot accommodate several of its heavyweights this Lok Sabha election.
It is desperate to cobble up a ‘grand alliance’for this polls and also look beyond, apparently the state assembly election two years later.
“Yes, we have sacrificed many of the constituencies, where according to our assessment we have bright prospects for victory. This was done to strike a harmonious note with our allies and ensure they too benefited from the Modi wave sweeping the nation,” a senior BJP leader said.
Further, the rainbow alliance will help to garner more MPs so as to strengthen the hands of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
As far as PMK is concerned, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss has been showing a strong inclination to align with the BJP while both Dr S. Ramadoss and J. Guru are averse to entering into an electoral tie-up with the saffron party.
“Dr Anbumani knows that his party would gain by aligning with us and that he could become MP. He may have to convince his father and party cadres into accepting the seats that have been offered to his party,” a senior BJP leader said.
Party insiders say unlike in Karnataka, unless the BJP manages to get MPs this time, it would not be able to strengthen the party so as to make an entry into the assembly in a big way.
