Students cry foul over medical exam results, probe ordered

Inquiry was ordered as a large number of junior doctors staged a protest at the university campus

VIJAYAWADA: Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan ordered an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the results of the PG medical entrance examination conducted by the NTR Health University. He asked the State Council of Higher Education chairman to inquire into the allegations and submit a report.

The inquiry was ordered even as a large number of junior doctors staged a protest at the university campus here and alleged foul play in the results as university toppers had failed to bag ranks while those who had done poorly in the previous examinations were placed in the top 50.

The medicos also questioned how non-locals, who studied in other states and countries, got ranks though they had failed to crack the Eamcet. The students submitted a memorandum to university registrar S. Babulal who promised an inquiry.

Speaking to this newspaper, Junior Doctors Association president P. Kranti Kumar alleged that those involved in alleged paper leaks in the past and were jailed had secured top ranks. Some doctors also doubted how students who had failed the MBBS first year exam thrice had managed to secure ranks.

Dr Srinivas who secured the state third rank in the MBBS exam was ranked 471 in the PG entrance test. Dr B. Santipriya secured 534th rank in the PG entrance while she was ranked 109 in ComedK, Karnataka, and 179 in the Manipal entrance test. Dr K. Spurthi, ranked 197, said she had secured the 69th rank in ComedK.
