Lok Sabha polls: Politicos' toons a hit on websites
HYDERABAD: With elections in a month, making their entry with a new tinge are innovative caricatures, illustrations, memes and cartoons of several prominent political leaders.
Social networking websites such as Twitter and Facebook are flooded with such caricatures talk about people’s take on the political scenario in the country.
Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Lagadapati Rajagopal and K. Chandrasekhar Rao top the list of favourites. Cartoonists from the city say that during election time, lot more cartoons are made and most of them are often successful in starting a dialogue among people.
Facebook’s new era memes of Norinder Mudi (Narendra Modi), Pappu (Rahul Gandhi), Avrind Kejriwul (Arvind Kerjiwal), Modem Ji (Sonia Gandhi) and Monmuhin (Manmohan Singh) are receiving immense response on the website.
Team Monmuhin & Co administers the above pages and also work under fictional names. The Norinder Mudi page that has memes with one liners in Gujarati and English and satirical content like “Donate Dhokla for Mudi Fund” has received over 39,509 likes. The page’s admin message reads, “All pages operated by Monmuhin & Co have been established for the sole purpose of entertaining Facebook users. The characters our pages portray are truly fictional, and though they may be similar to any real life person, no character in any way represents his/her real life counterpart.”
The other websites by many freelancers have pepper spray episode of Lagadapati Rajagopal.
“These memes make very powerful statements. They act like that crisp factor between people and politics and simplify it for many to understand and decipher. Though most of them are influenced by the artist’s ideologies, not many are biased,” said Sri Priyatham, a Hyderabad based illustrator.
