P.C. Chacko blames Prime Minister for Congress’ poll problems

He said the govt had failed to convince the people of 10 years’ achievements of the UPA

Kochi: AICC spokesperson P.C. Chacko, has said “The Prime Minister failed in communicating UPA’s achievements to the people and the situation is not in favour of Congress”.

Mr Chacko was addressing a meet-the-press event organised by Ernakulam Press Club on Saturday. He said the party and the government had failed to convince the people of 10 years’ achievements of the UPA. Chances of the Congress sitting in opposition could not be ruled out, he said. This was why the leadership, going by the performance of party members, “directed us to contest” so that there should an “efficient Opposition”.

“UPA rule in 10 years had achieved much, including the Right to Education, Right to Information, Employment Guarantee and Food Security Acts. But we failed to trumpet them. The Prime Minister is an efficient man, intelligent and revered worldwide. He is an expert on macro-economic management. The working committee asked him to address the media once in two weeks. But this did not materialise and his silence created space for so many interpretations. I would say that the Indian situation is not favourable to Congress but results are unpredictable now,” Mr Chacko said, adding that he could afford to be honest for the sake of credibility.
