Solicitor General of India counters CBI chief over Lalu Prasad Yadav
New Delhi: Solicitor-General of India, Mohan Parasaran has cautioned the CBI, stating that the courts, and not prosecutors, should decide on dropping cases against RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Mr Parasaran’s view came after the CBI sought his opinion on the issue. CBI chief Ranjit Sinha sought the opinion of the top law officer was sought following differences between him and director of prosecution O.P. Verma.
Mr Parasaran’s note to the CBI assumes significance as its director had last week advocated dropping of charges against Mr Yadav in three pending cases which are offshoots of the fodder scam in which the RJD leader has been convicted in one case. The matter was examined by the CBI at various levels in which the director of prosecution had opined that the present case did not attract the provisions of Section 300(1) of the CrPC and Article 20(2) of the Constitution.
