Trinamool Congress misled me, alleges Anna Hazare
New Delhi: The much hyped bonding between anti graft crusader Anna Hazare and Trinamul chief Mamata Banerjee appears to be coming to an abrupt end, with the former on Friday accusing the party of being “deceitful”. After leaving the West Bengal CM red faced when he decided to skip their rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Wednesday, Mr Hazare claimed on Friday that he had been “misled”.
Mr Hazare said, “When I came to Delhi to attend the rally, I got to know that by noon there were only 2,000-2,500 people at the venue. I thought something was amiss. This was the mistake, this was the dhokhadhri (deceit)”. The Trinamul leaders had claimed that Mr Hazare had stayed away due to ill health.
While Mr Hazare blamed the Trinamul for the poor turnout, Ms Banerjee had said she had only been “invited” there and it was not her party’s rally. “Had it been our rally, we would have brought many people from Bengal,” she had said.
Mr Hazare made it clear on Friday that he had skipped the rally due to the poor attendance. The Gandhian activist said he had come to Delhi solely to attend the rally, but was taken for a ride by the organisers. While Mr Hazare had earlier said he would campaign for the Trinamul in the Lok Sabha elections, he seems to have had a change of heart. Mr Hazare said that though he still supported Ms Banerjee as an individual, he was not supporting the Trinamul.
