Had promised merger with Congress to get Telangana moving: KCR

Going back on that promise, KCR now says will go alone these polls

Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday completely ruled out any possibility of allying with the Congress for the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing party workers at the Telangana Bhavan, KCR said TRS had always been dictated by the wishes of the people of Telangana. "The people of Telangana are against TRS merging or allying with the Congress. Therefore, the TRS will contest these elections alone," KCR announced today. He also ridiculed the claim of Congress leaders that several TRS MLAs were willing to join the Congress. "Let's see from tomorrow whether TRS MLAs join the Congress or the opposite happens."

KCR strongly condemned remarks of AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh for calling him a "betrayer". Without naming Singh, he asked Congress leaders to explain how he had betrayed them. "I initially accepted the proposal for merger so as to stop the suicide by students demanding statehood. I also wanted to pressure the Congress into initiating the formalities for Telangana," he said.

KCR ridiculed the recent decision of the Congress to give tickets to kins of people who have died in the struggle for statehood. "Names of Congress leaders are on their suicide notes," KCR said.
