Expelled DMK leader, Alagiri meets Tamil superstar Rajinikanth
Chennai: Suspended DMK leader M. K. Alagiri on Friday met superstar Rajinikanth at the latter’s Poes Garden house. He took along his film producer-son Durai Dayanidhi. The 15-mintue meeting happened a day after Alagiri met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He had also met BJP president Rajnath Singh during that trip to Delhi.
At the Rajini meeting, the father-son duo did more than just listening to the ‘Kochadaiyan’ music. Sources close to the Madurai Maaveeran said the superstar advised him to maintain cordial relationship with his father considering his age and wisdom. They said Alagiri was keen on repairing the relationship that fouled like never before there have been several showdowns of similar kind after he gave a media interview rubbishing brother Stalin’s efforts to rope in DMDK chief Vijayakanth into the DMK camp and got matters worse by telling his father, Mr Karunanidhi, that Stalin “will die in a few months”.
After that, the DMK suspended Alagiri from the party and he was not considered for renomination in Madurai; his followers too were denied tickets. DMK insiders believe that Alagiri’s meetings with Congress and BJP seniors and now with Rajinikanth were only aimed at impressing his dad to take him back. An Alagiri aide confirmed that he met dad’s archrival Vaiko before the secret session with Rajnath Singh. For the record, Alagiri has said he would consult his supporters in Madurai before deciding his course of action for the Lok Sabha polls.
