India deploys 4 ships to locate missing Malaysian jet
Kuala Lumpur/New Delhi: India on Thursday deployed four warships to locate the jetliner missing for six days as Malaysia debunked as false leads Chinese satellite images of suspected debris in waters off Vietnam's southern coast.
Joining the massive international search operations, India pressed into service six aircraft including its latest special surveillance P-8I plane and three helicopters under 'Operation Searchlight'.
The IAF has also deployed two of its latest C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft from Hindan air base.
Four warships have been dispatched from Andaman and Nicobar Command including INS Kumbhir, INS Kesari and INS Saryu from Navy and Coast Guard Ship Kanaklata Baruah to the areas specified by the Malaysian government. Earlier reports claimed that the missing jet might have landed into the Andaman sea.
P-81 joins jet search patrols
Chennai: Indian Navy on Thursday despatched its best reconnaissance aircraft Boeing P-8I – that can even track parts of crashed planes under water – to take part in the search operations of the missing Malaysia Airlines plane MH370. The P-8I plane from INS Rajali in Arakonnam left at 1.30 pm on Wednesday for Port Blair to scan the Strait of Malacca.
The P-8I, which was inducted into the Indian Navy recently to act as its eye in the Indian Ocean, has an array of sensors for maritime reconnaissance.
