Election Commission and Police seized 24 kilogram of silver
Coimbatore: About 24 kilograms of silver and Rs 1.5 lakhs were seized by the police and the election officials from two persons in the city on Thursday.
Along with the flying squad members from the Election Commission, the city police seized 24 kilograms of silver from Dheeran Jain, 25, at the Gandhipuram bus stand, after he got off a bus from Puducherry. A trader from Mumbai, who has been supplying ornamental metals on wholesale basis to jewellers in Coimbatore, Dheeran Jain used to visit Coimbatore frequently.
The police found 24 kilograms of silver, worth around Rs 15 lakhs in his suitcase. As Dheeran Jain could not provide the valid documents, the Race Course police handed over the silver to the flying squad. In another seizure at Ukkadam, police seized Rs 1.5 lakhs in unaccounted cash belonging to Kuppusamy(46), a textile merchant from Dindgul. He was on his way to Kozhikode.
