An interview with Gates revealed that apart from Google, Microsoft was also in talks with WhatsApp
Bill Gates, now technical advisor of Microsoft, revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that Microsoft was in talks with WhatsApp for the deal. However, he did not confirm if the price was $19 billion (what Facebook offered), but definitely considered the company worth investing in. Apart from Microsoft, Google was also in talks with WhatsApp for the purchase.
