In future, charge your phone while you speak

A new device developed by scientists can help charge your phone while you speak.

Scientists have managed to develop a new device which can generate electricity using movements from your body and pass on the power your phone. Silicon India reported that the device was being built by researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

The device is made using four discs, which are layered one on top of another. The first disc is of copper and will rotate, while the next one is made of a polymer and will remain stationary. The third one is made of gold and is divided into sectors (alternating sections cut out) which look like a bicycle wheel. Acrylic will be the last layer.

When the copper disc rotates, a positive charge in the copper will move past the negative charge in the polymer. The imbalance causes charges in the gold layer, in with each "spoke" of gold will have positive or negative charges accordingly. When a wire is connected between sectors, current flows, and will be stored.

The team led by researcher Zhong Lin Wang said that the device could generate power as long as the copper disc rotates.
