CISF to deploy marine commandos at all ports

CISF has finally taken over security of major ports across the country

New Delhi: In a bid to throw a tight security net around ports to thwart seaborne attacks like 26/11, the CISF has finally taken over security of major ports across the country with the Paradip port in Odisha recently being brought under a marine commando security net.

Sources said a trained squad of thirty CISF personnel have begun patrolling the sea near Paradip. This is the first marine commando squad of CISF which has gone sea-borne besi-des guarding ports like JNPT, Mumbai and Mundra in Gujarat.

The force has also taken over the control access security systems at cargo terminals of nine large airports, including international airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

The CISF is also set to take over the new task of guarding 30 new civil airports as it embarks on a major project to integrate security systems and gadgets at 59 air facilities in the country.

The force, assigned to guard the country's domestic and international airports, is also looking for state-of-the-art gadgets like alarm emitting CCTVs. On the CISF’s plans to go to 30 more airports in the country which are in the civil domain, CISF DG Arvind Ranjan said, “We are already securing 59. But the most important thing is to integrate our security devices and standardising our airport security gadgets across the country. “All the airports under our security cover should have one standard on the security platform,” he said.

The force has already approached the AAI for a meeting in this regard.

CISF Asks MHA to recruit more men for vip security

After central forces like NSG are trying to prune list of VIPs, the CISF, which at present provides security to 44 VIPs, the highest for any force in the country, has decided to ask the government to sanction more men for it in order that it may render such duties efficiently.

The CISF is ready to expand its task of giving VIP security if it gets more men. CISF chief Arvind Ranjan on Saturday said that the paramilitary force is requesting the MHA to sanction more men for its special unit, which has been especially created to cater to VIP and VVIP security duties.

The decision about giving security to any person is taken by the government and the CISF is tasked with implementing it, he said, adding that the force has been effectively carrying out the task.
