Apple loses bid for US ban on Samsung smartphone sales

Apple has won US jury verdicts against Samsung Electronics Co Ltd of about $930 million.

San Francisco: A US judge on Thursday rejected Apple Inc's request for a permanent sales ban in the United States against some older Samsung smartphones. This infact proves to be a key setback for the iPhone maker in its global patent battle.

‘Apple can’t present enough evidence to prove that that its patented features can bring in more demand from consumers neither warrant an injunction.’ stated Lucy Koh in San Jose, US District Judge, California.

Apple's request for the permanent injunction stems from the companies' legal fight over various smartphone features patented by Apple. This also includes design elements such as the phone's flat, black glass screen. Even though Samsung no longer sells the older-model phones targeted by the injunction request, Apple argued that such an order is important to prevent Samsung from future copying with new products.
