2 more deaths due to Hailstrom in Warangal

Hailstorm continues to create havoc in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: The death toll due to the hailstorm rose to nine on Thursday, with two more deaths being reported from Warangal. On Thursday, there was rain in six districts of the Telangana region — Mahbubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medak, Nizamabad, and Adilabad — and in Anantapur and Kurnool in the Rayalaseema region, and Visakhapatnam district in Coastal Andhra.

Anantapur received the maximum rainfall at 58 mm on Thursday. “A total of 536 houses and 72,669 hectares were damaged in Nizamabad, Medak, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Mahbubnagar, Khammam, Nalgonda, Anantapur and Kurnool. Almost 561 poles and 25 distribution transformers were also damaged,” an official release by the Disaster Management department stated.

Collectors have been instructed to announce ex-gratia payments for death of persons or injury by the Chief Secretary. Rain or thundershowers, with or without hail, have been forecast at a few places in Telangana, Rayalaseema and isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad city will witness similar weather for the next couple of days.
