UN envoy detained in Crimea
Kiev: UN envoy Robert Serry was detained by unidentified gunmen in Simferopol, the capital of Ukraine’s autonomous Crimea region, a spokesman for Ukraine’s foreign ministry told AFP on Wednesday.
Mr Serry had been sent to the Black Sea peninsula which has come under de facto Russian control to “take stock of the situation”, UN’s deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson told journalists earlier in Kiev.
Meanwhile, local reports said that Ukraine was reinforcing security measures at its nuclear plants in response to Russian threats.
