Majid Hussain may resign from Mayor's post, to contest LS elections

Hussain's candidature from Secunderabad seat has been finalised by Owaisi

Hyderabad: GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain is likely to resign from his post in a day or two to prepare to contest the next Lok Sabha elections from Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat as MIM candidate.

According to sources, Majid Hussain's candidature from Secunderabad seat has been discussed and finalised by the MIM leaders Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi. Although there were speculations that he might contest from Nampally Assembly segment, presently represented by Virasat Rasool Khan, the MIM leadership has reportedly decided to field him from Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

"Being the Mayor for the last two years, Majid Hussain is a well known face and he is also aware of the issues in all the GHMC divisions. Therefore, his candidature suits best for the Secunderabad seat than any other Assembly segment," a MIM leader said on the condition of anonymity.

There were speculations that Majid Hussain might resign from the Mayor's post on Thursday itself. However, a final decision in this regard is likely to be announced on Friday when Asaduddin Owaisi is expected to speak out about the MIM's possible alliance with the Congress or TRS in next elections.

Several senior leaders including sitting MLA Virasat Rasool Khan, his nephew Saquib Rasool Khan, Haj Committee member Mahmood Ali Engineer, youth leader Yaser Arafat, former Deputy Mayor Jaffer Hussain Meraj and Nampally corporator Md Nazeeruddin are among the few aspirants for the MIM's ticket from Nampally seat. Being the corporator of Ahmed Nagar Division, Majid Hussain had an edge over other aspirants, the MIM leadership has reportedly conveyed him to prepare to contest from the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat.
