Subrata Roy: Supreme Court issues notice to 'ink thrower'
New Delhi- The Supreme Court on Wednesday took suo motu cognisance of the incident when a man threw ink at Sahara Group chief Subrata Roy at the court premises on Tuesday and issued a contempt notice to him.
A bench headed by Justice R.M. Lodha held that the throwing of ink on Mr Roy while he was being brought to court under police custody “prima facie indicates obstruction in the administration of justice”. The bench issued notice to Manoj Sharma, a Gwalior-based lawyer who threw the ink, and sought his response within three weeks on why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him.
The bench inquired from Attorney General, G. E. Vahanvati about Sharma’s mental condition. The Attorney General said there was nothing to suggest about the state of his mental condition and that Sharma seemed to have a craving for publicity as he had earlier thrown a shoe at Congress member of Parliament Suresh Kalmadi.
