MIM to contest municipal polls in Telangana and Seema Andhra

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has decided to contest Municipal elections in both Telangana and Seema Andhra regions. The party is also planning to field some Hindu candidates in both the regions which are now new states keeping in view 50 per cent reservation for women, SC, STs and BCs.

MIM supremo, Mr Asaduddin Owaisi held meeting with party leaders from Telangana and Seema Andhra at the party headquarters to gear up for the municipal elections.

Sources in the party said that plans were also afoot to field some Hindu candidates in coming assembly and Lok Sabha polls, if they find a suitable nominee.

MIM in the past fielded Hindu candidates in MCH (now GHMC) elections and had three Hindu Hyderabad mayors in Mr K Prakash Rao, Mr A Satyanarayana and Mr Alampalli Pochaiah. The party has no option but to field Hindu candidates since some of the wards in Muslim dominated areas are reserved for STs and SCs.

Muslims are categorised as BCs. MIM is planning to field candidates and confident of doing well in Nizamabad, Bodhan, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nalgonda and other places in Telangana and Kurnool, Ananthapur, Krishna, Guntur in Seema Andhra region in the municipal polls.

Sources said the party has not finalised alliance with any party including Congress sofar for either Municipal, Assembly or parliament elections. MIM plans post election alliances with like minded parties and wants to be king maker. Congress, TRS and YSRC are eyeing for alliance with MIM. "Our focus is now Municipal elections. We have time for Assembly and Lok Sabha polls," a party leader said.

Apart from Hyderabad Lok Sabha and seven assembly segments of Malakpet, Nampally, Karwan, Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura and Bahadurpura, MIM is also planning to contest Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat besides assembly constituencies of Rajendranagar, Jubilee Hills, Musheerabad, Maheshwaram, Nizamabad, Bodhan, Nirmal, Mudhole, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Karimnagar, Zaheerabad assembly constituencies, it is learnt.
