Medical council censures two docs

Hyderabad: Two doctors have been warned and censured by the AP Medical Council, one for being negligent in discharging his duty and the other for tampering with medical records. Censure has been issued for the first time by APMC, which means that the doctors will not get a ‘good conduct’ certificate from the council for the next five years. Doctors need this certificate to apply for scholarships or attend conferences or be part of a delegation.
Speaking about the negligence case, Dr E. Ravinder Reddy, chairman of the council, said: “The general body of the council has investigated the complaint of the patient and it was found that the doctor didn’t attend to the patient when required.”
The aggrieved parents of a 12-year-old girl, who died as the doctor was not available during an emergency, lodged the complaint. The child suffered from recurrent kidney disease and was admitted to Sai Ram Hospital of Dr P. Goli Venkatesh Rao, a paediatrician, at Dilsukh nagar. However, Dr Rao denied any wrongdoing.
In the second instance, the duty doctor of the government hospital at Janagram (Warangal), Dr Suganakar Raju, tampered with the admission records of a patient.
Investigations by the medical council revealed that this was done to appease the patient’s husband who wanted to settle a marital dispute in his favour. The council ruled that this was unacceptable behaviour on the part of the doctor, and the medical profession must not indulge in such unethical practices.
