Cases against the petrol pump owners have been registered for faulty machines
Pump owners withdraw their strike after warning from Governor
Hyderabad- Following the flash strike by petrol pump owners across the city to protest the recent raids to detect the use of faulty fuel dispensing pumps, the Legal Metrology department has written to the Government of India about the same and has also listed the number of cases booked during these raids. Officials from the department have said that the cases booked will only be withdrawn when the petrol pumps surrender the faulty machines.
“We have written to all the petrol pumps that have dispensing pumps manufactured by Tatsuno or Wayne Dresser companies to surrender their equipment, specially the ones that are remote automated and do not have an approval from the Government of India. They have agreed to this and we will soon be regulating these. We have booked 50 cases so far. A letter has also been sent to the GOI, Legal Metrology Department,” said Bhasker, assistant controller, Legal Metrology department.
“We have not committed any discrepancies. Even during the raids, we did not commit any malpractice. We have been getting our licences renewed for the past 16 years, and now suddenly all this came up. We have experienced loses. Automation was created for the benefit of customers. Each dealer will have four pumps, and if all of them are closed, how will we earn our bread? There may be some who are committing these offences. The department has to identify them and punish them,” said Prabhakar Reddy of the AP Federation of Petroleum Traders.
