SMS rail alert service availabe now
The Railway Ministry has introduced an SMS rail alert service to help its passengers get timely updates on their respective PNR status.
It has also decided to send booking status messages to about four lakh passengers on their mobile phones. "After experimenting this SMS service for a couple of days, we have now decided to bring it out to passengers whose waitlisted tickets get confirmed," said, Minister of State for Railways, New Delhi, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
The software for the SMS-based service has been developed by CRIS, the technological arm of railways.
"Passengers want to know about the status of the ticket and the new service is certainly going to benefit passengers and also help reduce load on the railway website," said DP Pandey, Railway Member (Traffic).
Business Today also reported that this facility is expected to reduce the last minute enquiry rush on the rail websites
"Passengers will get the status alert three hours before with their coach number and berth number." highlighted Pandey.
