No anti-graft ordinances, Cabinet clears Jat quota

The Cabinet cleared a proposal to accord OBC status to the Jat community in the Central list

New Delhi: With the government unable to convince President Pranab Mukherjee, the Union Cabinet, at its special meeting on Sunday chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, avoided taking a decision on taking the ordinance route for pending anti-corruption Bills.

The Cabinet cleared a proposal to accord OBC status to the Jat community in the Central list paving the way for them to be entitled for quota in Central government jobs and educational institutions. The Cabinet also approved a proposal to promulgate an ordinance to effect amendments to the SC/ST Atrocities Act.
