Flydubai profits up 47 percent
Dubai’s carrier flydubai posted a net profit of $60.7 million in 2013
Dubai's no-frills carrier flydubai said Monday it posted a net profit of $60.7 million in 2013, up 47 percent from the previous year, on the back of surging passenger numbers.
The revenues of flydubai, which began operations in 2009, reached 3.7 billion dirhams ($1.0 billion), the company said in a statement.
"Continued demand for travel within a five-hour flying radius of Dubai resulted in an increase in passenger numbers to 6.82 million, a 38 percent increase compared to 2012," it said.
flydubai, a sister firm of giant Emirates, operates a fleet of 36 single-aisle Boeing 737 planes and serves 65 destinations from its hub at Dubai International.
