Ukraine to ask Moscow to extradite Prez if in Russia
Kiev: Ukraine’s general prosecutor said on Friday Kiev would ask Moscow to extradite ousted President Viktor Yanukovych, who is thought to have fled to Russia and is expected to give a press briefing there later in the day.
"Ukraine’s general prosecutor intends to ask for citizen Viktor Yanukovych, who is wanted on an international level, to be extradited if his presence in Russia is confirmed," the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
Meanwhile, deposed Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych insisted on Friday in his first public appearance since fleeing to Russia that he had not been overthrown and would continue to fight for the future of Ukraine.
He denounced the new leaders of Ukraine as neo fascists who had created chaos.
"I have not been overthrown by anyone, I was compelled to leave Ukraine due to an immediate threat to my life and the lives of those close to me," he said.
"I intend to continue the fight for the future of Ukraine against those who try to saddle it with fear," he added.
