Ministers welcome President's rule

Congress opted for President's rule to avoid Opposition criticism

Hyderabad: Ministers from both the Telangana and Seemandhra regions welcomed the decision of the Union Cabinet to impose President’s Rule in the state.

Speaking to the media separately on Friday, Anam Ramanarayana Reddy and N. Raghuveera Reddy from the Seemandhra region and Ponnala Laxmaiah, J. Geetha Reddy and Danam Nagendar from the Telangana region supported the Congress decision.

Mr Ramanarayana Reddy, Mr Raghuveera Reddy and Rajya Sabha member K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao said that though the Congress has enough majority to form a new government in the state, imposing President’s Rule was ideal as the election schedule would be issued in the next four or five days.

They said that if the Congress installed a new government, the Opposition parties may criticise this during the elections. They said by imposing President’s Rule the Congress has avoided such criticism. Mr Laxmaiah said the Union Cabinet has taken a correct decision by imposing President’s Rule. He said that when there is no chance of forming a new government, imposing President’s Rule is inevitable.

Ms Geetha Reddy said the Congress high command took all aspects into consideration before opting for President’s Rule. Mr Nagendar, supporting the Union Cabinet decision, said that the high command has taken this decision to avoid controversies. Meanwhile, Telangana political JAC chairman Kodandaram said that imposing President’s Rule was inevitable due to the situation prevailing in the state.
