Stage set for Invitation Cup
Hyderabad: The stage is set and all the players are ready for the Indian Turf Invitation Cup racing weekend, scheduled to be held at the Malakpet Race Course on March 1 and 2. Speaking about the event at a press conference on Thursday, Hyderabad Race Club chairman R. Surender Reddy announced that a total sum of '4.52 crore is up for grabs during the weekend. Headlining the two-day extravaganza would be The Indian Turf Invitation Cup, which boasts of a field of 16 runners.
Featured alongside it are The Sprinters Cup (Grade I), which will witness 14 horses vie for the top prize, The Stayers Cup (Grade I) with 12 runners in the fray and the Major P.K. Mehra Memorial Super Mile Cup (Grade I), also with 12 runners. Saturday will see The Japan Trophy (over a distance of 1,400 metres) while Sunday will witness The Asian Racing Federation Million (to be run over a similar distance).
The Hyderabad Race Club also announced that India has been chosen by the Asian Racing Federation to host the 36th Asian Racing Conference in December 2015/January 2016. Members of the ARF Executive Council — from Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Singapore — have accepted the HRC’s invitation to attend the Invitation Cup racing weekend. The Hyderabad Race Club has also planned several events alongside the races, like a Marwari horse show and an exhibition of vintage cars. There also will be a lucky draw on Sunday, the coupons for which will be sold for '100 on both days at the Members Stand as well as the Grand Stand.
