Hyderabad: Mayor Majid Hussain along with deputy Mayor G. Rajkumar and GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar on Thursday formally launched "She Taxi" scheme at the civic body’s head office.
Praising the scheme, the Mayor said that She Taxis were aimed at empowering the women and helping them beco me financially independent. As a pilot project, the GHMC handed over five vehicles to the women, who will be the owner cum driver of the vehicle. The GHMC has arranged for 85 per cent of the loans through various banks and the remaining 15 per cent has to be borne by the beneficiaries. For the first two months, the beneficiaries need not pay any interest.
Mr Somesh Kumar said that the GHMC would like to expand the scheme by adding more beneficiaries. He said the GHMC was coming up with a programme called "Driver cum Owner" in which around 200 people will be provided with a vehicle with 15 per cent beneficiary contribution and 85 per cent bank linkage.
