Rajiv Gandhi assasination case: Supreme Court stays release of 4 more convicts

Opposing the Centre’s plea, state government said the petition wasn’t maintainable as the Union government could file a writ in the case.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday restrained the Tamil Nadu government from releasing four convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, just days after it had stayed the release of three other convicts in the case.
A bench headed by Chief Justice P. Sathasivam directed the state government to maintain the status quo and said it will hear on March 6 the Centre’s plea against the state government’s move to release all seven prisoners serving life imprisonment.
